I can still remember the first time I heard Celtic Frost... Back in early 1985, KCMU Seattle had a show called "Rock And A Hard Place", later renamed to "Brain Pain" with host Jeff Gilbert. On this show, Gilbert would play all kinds of underground thrash and heavy metal, most of which I was just learning about, or had never heard up until that point. At that time I was 14-15 and just moving into bands like Venom, Metallica, Slayer, and Motörhead... yet, I was totally blown away from the first notes of "Dethroned Emperor"! Nothing before sounded so damn good and so damn heavy at the same time! My tastes were instantly transformed.Of course, the real release here would be the Morbid Tales mini-LP, but the first ever Celtic Frost release I was able to find was a cassette version of the Emperor's Return EP and I played the shit out of it, eventually picking up all all there releases on vinyl. This one featured two tracks from Morbid Tales ("Dethroned Emperor" & "Morbid Tales") and three previously unreleased songs that I now know were recorded as demos by the band and not intended for official release. That said, they are killer tracks, including an early version of "Circle Of The Tyrants", as well as exclusive cuts "Visual Aggression" and "Suicidal Winds". Essential listening.
