I’d say alongside Iron Maiden and Diamond Head debuts, the first Angel Witch album is right up there with the best of the genre. An absolute banger, end to end! Sadly, with Angel Witch the issue of longevity was more about keeping it together and less a concern of quality metal (most of their stuff is solid). After many years of inactivity and false starts, the band seems pretty stable these days and have dropped a couple of fine albums in the 21st century. This release remains of the best NWOBHM albums ever made.
Original 1980 UK pressing on Bronze. Came across this cheap at a record show and did not hesitate to nab it. It’s a well traveled copy but has held up nicely. Gave it a couple rounds in the ultrasonic cleaner and that seems to have completely eliminated any remaining crackle. Amazing.
