Blue Öyster Cult - Revölution By Night (1983)

After a slump towards the end of the seventies, BÖC made a full and admirable return to form with a Cultösaurus Erectus (1980) and Fire Of Unknown Origin (1981), recapturing their fanbase and relevance in the process. However, things were not all good and drummer/songwriter Albert Bouchard was fired from the band. Revölution By Night is still a really good album, but the sound is more in the 1980s style and isn’t as burly as the two prior LPs and the songs are slightly more straightforward.

Unfortunately, it really is the beginning of the end of BÖC as they would never recapture the sound or the audience they once had. This album though… absolutely worth picking up if you come across it. The cover art is awesome and the opener Take Me Away is with the price of admission.

Original 1983 US pressing on Columbia. Paid exactly $5 for this at a local shop some years ago and it’s pristine. I dunno why I remember the price I paid for it, it just sticks in my head for some records, haha.
