When the NWOBHM kicked in strong in 1980, two years later seems like an eternity considering Diamond Head’s first LP barely got any kind of widespread release. I suppose that’s why they choose to re-record Am I Evil? And Lightning To The Nations. The album has a very polished 1980s sound to it and while it gets some fair criticism for its immediate commercial leanings, it’s a good album throughout. Crazy to think how so crazy brief Diamond Head’s initial relevance was. A little credit to Metallica for hyping these guys so much in the 80s. The times are good and the band deserves the credit as the influence on today’s metal cannot be underestimated.
1982 US pressing on MCA with the gold promo stamp on the front. Found this in at a fantastic shop called Smash Records in Washington DC and still can’t believe my luck. Same work trip also had me in NYC and I found a copy of Canterbury while up there.
