Well, this is pretty much where things go south with Diamond Head. It would seem that both drummer Duncan Scott and bassist Colin Kimberly spit with the band at some point and on recorded a few tracks here. Seasion players [?] were brought in and they band finished the album that way. Also notable is the complete lack of riffage that nd Head are known for. I don’t dislike this album, but it’s barely a metal album at all. While I get that they were seeking a commercial direction, it’s pretty far out to think this would ever crack a major market or anything.
The band would not release another studio album until 1993 and while the Metallica fame was good for them, they never recovered from early missteps. Guitarist Brian Tatler carried a reinvented version of band forward for many years, successfully even, but they would never recapture the relevancy of Lightning To The Nations. But hey, this oddball album has a charm of its own. Not crucial, but I’m glad I have it.
Original 1982 UK pressing on MCA. This one has never received an official US pressing that I know of.
