A guy that I used to know clued me on to Hollenthon like 20 years ago and it took a few months for me to really take in the burned CD I had of With The Vilest Worms To Dwell before it clicked and when Opus Magnum came out, I was down. Their debut (this album) was the last one I heard and Instill remember not expecting it to be so good.
Musically these guys are tough to classify. There’s a symphonic element that reminds me of mid-period Therion, but they are a bit more ferocious than Therion at this stage. There’s also a lot more of a folk metal vibe happening, on this album, at least. I can’t deny, the music is potent and exceptionally executed. Worth your time!
This is a 2023 reissue on Hammerheart Records and marks the first time this has ever been released on vinyl before. I still have all my Hollenthon CDs, hah.
