Klaus Schulze - Blackdance (1974)

Schulze’s third album and a bit of a transitional moment for him. I suspect it was chasing a sound here that he wasn’t quite able to execute at the time. If very much feels like a step towards the amazing Timewind album… but not at that level. Was surprised to see how much it gets bashed in reviews. Not his best, but by no means a bad album.

1984 UK pressing on Caroline Records. Just today I realized that Caroline was a subsidiary of Virgin back in the 1970s and restarted in the US in the 1980s. This was definitely the first Klaus Schulz album I ever bought or heard. Found at a record show (yes, again) but in the 1980s and I had no idea what it was. I just remember the cover was cool (like a Salvador Dali painting) and it was cheap. My area of interest at the time was metal and punk, so took me a while to soak this in. It eventually changed my perspectives for the better and got me going on other types of music into my 20s.
