More - Warhead (1981)

More was a lesser known NWOBHM band that put out just two full length albums and a few singles during their brief existence from 1979-1982. Both albums are pretty good, but there just wasn’t enough about to More to put them in front of so many other bands of the exploding NWOBHM scene at the time. They reformed a few times with different lineups, but the band never released anything after 1982. Oddly, there is a current version out there that features no original members and only Baz Nicholls who played bass on their very last 7-inch single, yikes! I could not even imagine being that hard up for a band identity.

Warhead is of course More’s debut album and despite not ranking as a breakthrough release, it’s a solid enough effort. Includes a head scratching cover of Arthur Brown’s megahit “Fire”. Also worth noting that the band here is fronted by Iron Maiden singer Paul Mario Day and he sounds perfectly fine here even if I can’t imagine him singing on any Maiden release. Warhead can still be found out there and is worth picking up of the price is right.

Original 1981 US promotional release version on Atlantic Records. Found this at a place I call “the vinyl garage“ which is basically a guy near my house who has his entire garage setup like a record store. All organized and everything, cash only kinda deal but the more you buy the better the deal. His stock turns kinda slow, but I go 2-3 times a year and there’s always some cool stuff.
