Nightwing is a bit of an anomaly. A UK band formed in 1978, they dropped their debut album, Something In The Air, in 1980 and it has practically nothing in common with the NWOBHM scene that was literally exploding around them. The album sounds like late 70s hard rock from North America… I would have figured them from Canada or the US Pacific Northwest from their look and sound.
That said, I like this record. Good compositions and performances keep it rolling. Frontman Gordon Rowley’s singing may not be for everyone, but there’s a charm to his vocals that’s grown on me. They put out a few more LP and their second album (titled Black Summer) seems like their best. Gotta pick that one up someday. These fellas definitely took their own path.
This is an original 1980 Canadian pressing. Picked this up used while Vancouver BC about a year ago. Love the cover art!
