A record built around the theme of Henry VIII six wives doesn’t exactly scream “ply me” all that much. Every time I pull this album out for a listen I take a moment of pause to remember just how much it does actually jam. While the album is centered around Wakeman’s fantastic keyboard mastery, it’s not all classical ponce. There is a lot of rock passages and the album features some great players, many of which are fellow Yes alumni, including Steve Howe, Chris Squire, Alan White, and even Bill Bruford, plus a number of other talented players, both rock and classical. I own just three Wakeman solo albums, but this is probably my favorite of the trio.
Original ‘73 US pressing. Bought this ages ago for cheap and it took me a few more to actually give it a listen. It’s grown on me quite a bit over the years.
