Tygers Of Pan Tang - Wild Cat (1980)

The debut album from NWOBHM legends Tygers Of Pan Tang is a landmark release for emerging metal scene. This first iteration of the band with a single guitar approach with riff master Robb Weir and unusual vocal stylings of frontman Jess Cox make for a one of a kind listen, even amongst other Tygers albums. The riffs are definitely NWOBHM styled, but the swagger is a little more rock ‘n’ roll and it totally works. Songs are all well crafted and maybe the only drawback is a sense of sameness from song to songs. Still, after a few listens and once you’ve adapted to Jess Cox’s vocals, there are a lot of killer sounds that begin to emerge from the album. Spellbound is the sound I think more folks coming to this for the first time might expect, but given the time, this albums is equally as excellent. Essential NWOBHM!

Original US pressing on MCA and in fine condition. I feel like I found this cheap in a used bookstore, but the memory is fuzzy. Happy to have found it whenever that was.
