Voïvod - Nothingface (1989)

Voïvod is easily one of my all time favorite band and while there is much to love with. All eras and incarnations, the original lineup of Snake, Piggy, Blacky, and Away is where it’s at for me. Piggy and Blacky had developed this insane guitar-bass interplay where they were never actually playing the same thing at that same time, often heading in different directions at once and somehow it all worked! I don’t know if Nothingface represents the peak of that technique, but the album is recorded and mixed in a way where that interplay of front and center… Everyone brought something crucial to the band with the original Voïvod lineup and it’s pretty special. This album is like nothing else and absolutely rules.

Fact: Questionface - the name of this blog is named after a sound collage that the bamd had produced around this time and was out there as a rare promo cassette only thing.

Initially bought this on CD in 1989 and eventually found this original stamped promo vinyl copy at a shop in Seattle sometime in the early/mid-2000s. It’s not a perfect copy, but it plays real good and holds a special place in my collection and my heart.
