Eloy (1971)

Kicking of with Eloy’s first album and while it’s a different beast from the progressive juggernaut that they would become, it jams. The only album Eloy ever released without Frank Bornemann on vocals, which were handled by Erich Schriever (his only appearance with Eloy). Of course Bornemann plays guitar on this album and it’s more musically akin to Uriah Heepmor Deep Purple than the spaced out sounds Eloy would be known for.

2018 European reissue on Universal/Music On Vinyl. Very nice. The original release had a novelty cover in which the rubbish can lid would open to reveal the contents inside. The reissue gatefold basically replicates that, but without the die cut lid. Hilariously, the big reveal is just some garbage.
