Embryo - Opal (1970)

Embryo is the brainchild of German R&B and jazz organist Christian Burchard. Aside from Burchard’s constant presence, other member of the band seem to come and go as the music evolved. Opal, being the first official Embryo album is very much soaked in psychedelic and early Krautrock vibes, but with a funkier bent than most of their contemporaries. Jazz vibes, along with middle eastern sounds and African polyrhythms are also present but would become more prevalent on further releases. Great band with a strong run of LPs through the early 1970s. Opal is a great place to start with them.

This is a 2013 reissue on Russian label Мирумир, which was a subsidiary label of Lilith. Мирумир has been defunct since 2017, but it’s a nice little reissue. Includes a bonus track and a CD of the full album too.
