1997 saw yet another evolutionary step for Enslaved with Eld. Compositions are less chaotic and instead lean into an epic, far reaching type of vibe. Oh, the intensity is still there, but the band are eyeing the cosmos for more. Outstanding accomplishment of progressive Viking metal. Having initially struggled with this album, it’s grown to become a favorite. Admittedly tough to take in at first, the effort does pay off once it all snaps into place.
2017 French reissue on Osmose Productions and it’s a gem!
