Even with all of the praise and acknowledgment that Judas Priest receives for their music, their early work of architecting what heavy metal would become cannot be understated. The band’s 1970s output is nothing short of phenomenal and very much out of step with a lot of what was happening at the time. True pioneers of the genre, second only to Black Sabbath.
Sin After Sin is packed with solid bangers for start to finish. Tracks like Sinner, Starbreaker, and Dissident Aggressor lay the framework for what heavy metal would build from. Produced by Roger Glover of Deep Purple and also features well known drummer Simon Philips who recorded as a session player here, but absolutely kills it.
Original 1977 US pressing on Columbia. I picked this up used back in the 1980s at one of my favorite local shops called Rubato Records (long gone now) and still has the Rubato price tag on it… $4.50, haha.
