Opeth - My Arms, Your Hearse (1998)

I often find myself relating Opeth and Enslaved together due to both bands having rapid progression and ultimately evolving into full on progressive music icons (in my view). However, the two bands have never sounded even remotely the same and that could not be more pronounced than it was in 1998. Even at their earliest stages, Opeth value musical intricacies and have long been a force at interleaving those elements into the heaviest of death metal.

My Arms, Your Hearse is a notably excellent entry to their discography. The band is basically on fire and the somgcraft, playing, overall sound… all amazing. Produced by the band and Fredrick Nordström and engineered by Dan Swanö. Swanö, a progressive metal legend in his own right was a big supporter of Opeth in their early days.

2019 European reissue on Candlelight Records/Spinefarm Records. Presentation and sound are both really well done. This pressing includes a couple of bonus cover track recorded for tribute albums including “Circle Of The Tyrants” by Celtic Frost and “Remember Tomorrow “ from Iron Maiden.
