Opeth’s debut album is a massively bold statement of progressive intent. The songs are long and have many twists, turns and reliefs. In a lot of ways, the album seems like it should fall on its face, but it manages to be engaging and interesting throughout. The band would continue to refine and better their sound on future efforts before undergoing even further evolutionary changes. incredible start!
This is a 2020 European reissue on Candlelight Records/Spinefarm Records and it sounds great. Includes a bonus track title “Into The Frost Of Winter” from a 1992 demo.
