Japanese record actor, musician, producer Yūya Uchida formed The Flowers after seeing Jimi Hendrix in London. He was so inspired he wanted to bring this type of music to Japanese listeners and this album, largely made up of psychedelic rock covers of the time is his first effort. While an album of contemporary covers may not sound that exciting, the record is actually pretty smokin’. Vocals are shared by vocalist Remi Aso (who also plays guitar) and Kento Nakamura. Remi’s singing is what really stands out as she has some killer pipes. Under Uchida’s initial direction, the band essentially evolved into the much heavier Flower Travellin’ Band with only drummer Joji Wada carrying over (Uchida stepped back to just producing). It’s a definite banger if you like this kind of stuff.
I believe this reissue came out in 2020 on French label Absinthe, who are known as a potential distributor of unauthorized releases. It’s a decent pressing and all, but probably unofficial.
