Deep Purple (1969)

Deep Purple’s third album, musically, is a great leap forward for the band, but somehow seems to have fallen between the cracks despite being a solid effort. The winds were changing and it wasn’t much longer before singer Rod Evans and bassist Nick Simper were out. Simper wouj go into heavy rock band Warhorse and of course Rod Evans would become the frontman of Captain Beyond, where I dare say he made an even more iconic impact on heavy rock than with DP. Dig the Hieronymus Bosch cover art.

Early US repress of this album on Tetragrammaton and it’s all good.
