Oh yeah! This is where Deep Purple kick it all into gear. This album is heavy, raw, and loud! It’s literally recorded kind of hot in a dangerous analog way and the sound is pretty great. The band self-produced this album, but this was their first time working with maestro producer & engineer, Martin Birch. Everyone on this album shines but it’s Ian Gillian’s real debut as he barely sings on the Concerto LP but holy shit, this is where the silver throated demon comes out. Absolutely astounding vocal performances, especially on Child In Time. This is Deep Purple at their most visceral. Essential listening.
1970 US pressing on Warner Bros.
