Deep Purple - Shades Of Deep Purple (1968)

This is the very first album by Deep Purple and the beginning of what is commonly known as their Mach I era featuring singer Rod Evans and bassist Mick Simper. The core of the band is also present with Richie Blackmore, Jon Lord, and Ian Paice. Totally different kind of sound than what they will become known for, but this early stuff is pretty damn good, if a bit poncy at times. For ‘68 though, this is some heavy shit!

Original 1968 US pressing on Tetragrammaton. no idea where I picked this up, but it surely goes way back.
