This is Manilla Road’s debut album. Even though it’s 1980, the album has a very late 70s heavy rock or proto-metal vibe about it. I might even say their ‘79 demo is a bit more metallic, but this record is still pretty damn cool. I love the lo-fi vibes and the passion that they pour into the performance.
If you’ve ever sat in on band rehearsals in a gloomy rehearsal studio underground or all soundproofed… this this is the vibes on Invasion. Lyrics are interesting too! A mix of cheesy rockin’ cuts and heady sci-if fantasy themes, some of which are quite beautiful. Much love to this weird album.
2012 German reissue on the unparalleled High Roller Records. Superb.
