UK guitarist Steve Hillage was still playing with Gong at the time this, his first solo album, was released. Before joining Gong, Hillage had been a member of Arzachel and Khan, both of which released one great album each before folding. Hillage recorded a number of albums with Gong and simultaneously ventured into a rich and long running solo career. Fish Rising has the feeling of an album that had been worked on for a long time before recording the material and the results are stunning. Psychedelic space rock, but also tight playing and some ripping solos throughout. Love this album.
1975 US pressing on Virgin. Found this at Moondog Records in Las Vegas back in 2016. Felt like it was looking for this record for a while too, so surprised to see that I’ve had it so long already (thanks to Discogs for helping me track when I buy stuff).
