To The Death! was Voïvod’s follow up to the 1983 Anachronism live demo cassette. This is a studio demo and honestly sounds pretty damn good! Largely made up of songs from the first two albums plus a few covers and it makes for a really fascinating document as well as a killer listen. Piggy’s playing is so fucking awesome! One of my top three players of all time (w/Fripp & Iommi)… without a doubt! You can feel he just plays from his soul… not thinking, it’s just natural. Absolute legend!
I wish the band would have released all of the old Iron Gang demos this way, but thankful for this high quality vinyl release. Only complaint is that they didn’t try to replicate the original cassette layout that was already perfectly cool (see below).
