Amorphis moves heavily into Finnish folklore themes with this album to great effect. Musically, they are still firmly rooted in death metal, but you can hear progressive and ethnic leaning musical elements interwoven throughout. The band at this point is on a pretty interesting evolutionary path. Really nice album.
2020 European pressing on Relapse Records. I don’t usually get all that excited about cover variants with vinyl pressings, but this one is unusually cool.
