Deep Purple - Burn (1974)

Deep Purple MkIII kicks it off in the best possible way! After massive success with the MkII lineup, Blackmore gave Gillan and Glover the boot and brought in unknown singer David Coverdale as well as Trapeze bassist (and extraordinary singer) Glenn Hughes. A huge gamble, but in this rare instance, it paid off! Hughes and Coverdale are a killer combo and the band is on fire (excuse the pun). One of the best things the band ever released and hot damn this is a good album! A proto-metal masterpiece.

Early US repress on Warner Bros Records. Essential listening.
