This 2xLP live collection dropped in 1980 at a time when Deep Purple was very much broken up and not an active concern. Blackmore was riding high with Rainbow, Gillan was busy with his solo band, Lord & Paice were members of David Coverdale’s Whitesnake, and Roger Glover was an active producer and had also joined Blackmore in Rainbow at this point. 1980 also marks the year that original DP singer Rod Evans was part of the fake Deep Purple scam that caused him to lose all future royalties from the band from that point onward. There’s an interesting two part article about this here (part 1) and here (part 2) - reader mode and/or an ad blocker is recommended.
About the album itself, it’s a nice little collection of tunes recorded live by the MkII lineup in 1970 and 1972 and it all pretty much smokes.
1982 US repress on Portrait with a CBS promo copy gold stamp on the back cover (upper-right). Nothun’ fancy, but sounds great!
