Deep Purple - Who Do We Think We Are (1973)

After a massively successful world tour in support of Machine Head, Deep Purple had to endure the obvious follow up album. Already a daunting task for any band, they also had to come to terms with the fact that band founder/guitarist/enigmatic driving force and infectiously expressive frontman Ian Gillan count not stand each other. The band somehow got through this album, but it was pretty much over after that. Blackmore axed not just Gillan, but also badass bassist Roger Glover. A decicision that, to this day, still totally baffles me from a commercial band perspective. I totally get it for a ton of other reasons, but Blackmore totally threw an axe through the most artistically and commercially successful iteration of his own band because of a personal beef with the singer. I respect it, but wild.

1973 US white label promo release and it sounds great.
