While I had been checking out Enslaved a bit already, it was Monumension in 2001, along with some strong recommendations from friends that got me to where I really dug in with Enslaved. It’s a bit of an oddity too, so not totally sure what initially drew me in so deep back then, but it was effective. In the following years I went back and grew to appreciate their early stuff as well as following along as they evolved into a progressive metal force like no other. One of my favorite bands still going in 2024! This album is a little weird, but hot damn if it isn’t one of my favorites.
Interesting note, Herbrand Larsen was one of the recording engineers for this album before he joined the band full time in 2004 on keyboards/guitars/vocals.
2017 French reissue on Osmose Productions.
