Steve Hillage managed to release four albums in 1979 and this would count as the third. After dropping the amazing foray into ambient with Rainbow Dome Musick, a blistering live album, and then Open (this). What’s most notable is the evolving sound. Hillage seems to confirm to nothing. He will interchangeably leverage elements of prog, jazz, funk, punk, electronic, and ambient and doesn’t seem to give a fuck. If you’re looking at getting into Hillage’s discography, I probably wouldn’t recommend starting here, but it’s a great place to finish.
1979 UK pressing on Virgin. Found this copy for a few buck some years back and it’s a little rough, but plays well.
