A bootleg split release featuring the pre-Black Sabbath 1969 demos of Earth on side A plus with Sabbath’s cover of Blue Suede Shows from 1970, on side A. Side B features Glenn Tipton’s Flying Hat Band, predating his time with Judas Priest. The pre-Sabbath material is an undeniably crucial document of the band just before taking a major step into a sound that would ignite an entirely new genre in rock.
However, it’s the Flying Hat Band material that’s a bit more substantial on its own. Very much in line with Sabbath and some of the better proto-metal heavy rock bands of the time, this 1973 demo material features some great fucking tunes. This band could have had a few crushing LPs in them had they kept going. Tipton of course went on to Judas Priest and shaped would would become the foundations of heavy metal. Great shit and absolutely worth checking out.
2014 repressing on Australian label Great Barrier Records.
