Eloy - Silent Cries And Mighty Echoes (1979)

Eloy’s ‘79 album is a bit of a flawed masterpiece, but still towers above what most 1970s prog acts were doing in ‘79. The band were in a tough spot as this was the studio follow up to their career-peak album “Ocean” and the musical landscape was changing rapidly with most prog considered on the outs. Musically, the album is rich and beautiful, but there are parts where the lyrics and vocals feel wedged into the mix and it’s a bit jarring at times… though it does not hurt the listening experience for me, but I’m a weirdo. Eloy manages to keep it going. Really good album!

1979 German pressing on Harvest/EMI Electrola. Took me a while to land this one in the wild, but I did finally find a copy while on a work trip to Birmingham, UK.
