Kreator - Terrible Certainty (1987)

While there really wasn’t clear identifier at the time, there was a clear musical move from 1985-1987 when bands that started in more of a death/thrash vibe squarely shifted to align themselves with the thrash movement vs. the not-yet defined death metal movement. I know this sounds crazy, but Kreator’s Pleasure To Kill, Slayer’s Hell Awaits, and Possessed’s Seven Churches albums were all very much death/thrash and it wasn’t until releases such as Terrible Certainty and Reign In Blood that said bands defined themselves as thrash bands in their riffage and songwriting approach. Even Possessed, who are correctly credited with releasing one of the first true death metal albums quickly became thrash-aligned with Open The Gates. Not shitting on anyone, just a personal take. I love all these bands and played the crap out of all of the aforementioned albums.

Also taking a moment to acknowledge that the above rant is the dumbest argument ever, haha! Whatever, fuck off.

Original 1987 US pressing on Noise International. I remember that I bought this brand new when it came out, but I’ll be damned if I can remember where.
