Mahavishnu Orchestra live is a wondrous thing to behold. The band is incredibly tight and on point on this recording of a Central Park NYC show from August of 1973. Sadly, this unparalleled lineup would split after this album l, never to reform. The band had been working on a studio album that would remain in the vault until 1999 when released as “The Lost Trident Seasions” and it’s great). McLaughlin will continue to release albums under the Mahavishnu Orchestra moniker (some that are really good), but nothing will quite meet the level of these first few albums.
1974 US quadraphonic pressing on Columbia. I’ve never had a quad setup, but the stereo playback sounds great here.
