Mountain - Twin Peaks (1974)

Mountain literally only stayed broken up for about a year and (sort of) regrouped with West and Pappalardi, joined by new members Bob Mann (guitar, keyboards) and Allan Schwartzberg (drums). This lineup recorded Twin Peaks live in Osaka, Japan on their subsequent tour and it’s actually fucking great. The band, even without Laing, seems to be able to hold its own. Being a double LP, this one has more tracks and an even more stretched out rendition of Nantucket Sleighride, taking up two full sides of the four allotted to this release. Excessive? Maybe. Does it work? Hell yes! Great album and seemingly the most overlooked of Mountain’s 70s output.

1974 US pressing on Windfall Records. Really love the cover artwork by artist and band collaborator Gail Collins (also wife of Felix Pappardi).
