Nektar - Down To Earth (1974)

Admission time: I came into Nektar through Iron Maiden’s cover version of King Of Twilight. As time went on I dug into a lot of prog and space rock, including early Nektar. I did not immediately connect with this album thinking the band had abandoned the space rock vibes and was also not really feeling the circus theme. What I didn’t realize until later is that this album is musically right in the pocket as their earlier stuff. It’s just not as obvious at first listen. Much going on with this LP and it’s primarily awesome prog.

Have to note that Hawkwind madman/contributor Robert Calvert guests as the ringmaster, complete with a fake German accent.

1974 UK pressing on United Artists.
