Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality (1971)

With their third album, the band dove deeper into the heavy, sludgy riffs that came to define their sound, pushing the genre into darker, uncharted territory. Guitarist Tony Iommi created a raw, downtuned tone that gave tracks like “Children of the Grave” and “Lord Of This World” an ominous, thick quality. This change not only set Master of Reality apart but also laid the groundwork for genres like doom and stoner metal.

1971 US pressing on Warner Bros. Records. Ended up buying this again in 2016 as the copy I’ve had since the 1980s was pretty crackly. What an album!
