Elf (1972)

The 1972 debut album by Elf marked the band’s introduction to the rock scene with a blend of blues and boogie rock. Fronted by a young Ronnie James Dio, this self titled LP showcased his powerful, soulful vocals early in his career. Also features Ronnie’s cousin, David “Rock” Feinstein on guitar (later known for his band The Rods). Produced by Deep Purple’s Roger Glover and Ian Paice, the album set the stage for Dio’s evolving legacy in rock and heavy metal. And yes, that is Dio on the cover!

1972 US pressing on Epic. My copy has a giant radio station copy label on the back sleeve and exhibits a bit of road wear. Despite that, the LP itself plays perfectly clean.  Not an easy record to find, regardless.
