Trying to Burn the Sun is Elf’s third and final album, showcasing the band’s continued evolution in blues and hard rock. The album brought a more polished sound, mixing raw energy with refined songwriting, and featured tracks with both heavy and melodic elements. Produced again by Roger Glover, Elf disbanded as Ritchie Blackmore basically absorbed their final lineup (minus guitarist Steve Edwards) into what would become Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow. Great final album and a fascinating period in Dio’s long and storied musical career.
