This is the band’s second album with vocalist Rob Dukes and guitarist Lee Altus (of Heathen)… it also marks the return of original and iconic drummer Tom Hunting, which is entirely welcome. The album’s title is inspired by J.G. Ballard’s 1970 experimental novel “The Atrocity Exhibition.” The “Exhibit A” designation was chosen with the intention of releasing a subsequent “Exhibit B” album, which eventually came out in 2010. While this lineup seems to be playing quite well, Dukes’ singing style veers just a tad too generic “tough guy” gruff vox for my tastes, even if he’s entirely competent… I just prefer Balloff or Zetro, both highly recognizable and unique, over Dukes. The album is still pretty good, it just doesn’t top other eras of the band. Produced by Andy Snead, the production is damn good.
2024 reissue from Nuclear Blast Records.
