This album marks a lineup change with the departure of Johannes Schmolling, now replaced by guitarist/keyboardists/pianist Peter Haslinger whose influence added a new dynamic to the band’s electronic sound. Tracks like “Song of the Whale” Parts 1 and 2 are emblematic of this era, combining sweeping synthesizers with expressive guitar work, creating a soundscape that feels both vast and immersive. The band retain their ambient leaning direction and simultaneously continue to embrace their modern, more accessible direction. I like Underwater Sunlight, but this find myself much more interested in TG’s earlier works at this stage in my life.
1986 US pressing on Relatively. Unlike my copy of Le Parc, I have had this for years and it is in pristine condition.
