Flow Motion blends elements of reggae, funk, and world music with the band’s signature experimental approach. Tracks like the hypnotic “I Want More,” which became a minor hit and introduced Can to a broader audience, highlight their ability to craft catchy, rhythmic grooves without losing their improvisational spirit. Meanwhile, songs like “Cascade Waltz” and “Laugh Till You Cry, Live Till You Die” display a more laid-back, melodic side of the band. I was sort of flummoxed by this record when I first heard it, but it’s grown on me a lot since those early days. Can was a band in a constant state of evolution, and while not all phases hit me the same, there’s lots to love.
2014 US reissue from Spion Records/Mute. The band’s 2014 reissue series is simple, yet excellent.
