David Coverdale’s Whitesnake - Snakebite (1978)

Following the release of his Northwinds album, David Coverdale embraced the idea getting a proper band in the works in the form of Whitesnake. Commonly considered the debut Whitesnake album, the original pressings sort of “soft launched” the band as David Coverdale’s Whitesnake. The album is made up of two parts, side A (produced by Martin Birch) being the first incarnation of the proper Whitesnake band, including longtime members Micky Moody, Bernie Marsden, and Neil Murray. This material was recorded ‘78 and is pretty fresh at the time of release. Very blues based rock, but with the harder edge a bit more prevalent than his solo material. Side B (produced by Roger Glover) seems to be sourced from the Northwinds album - mainly some of the harder edged tracks from that one, it would seem. Solid album all the way through and an interesting document of the birth of the arena rock juggernaut known as Whitesnake.

1978 US pressing from United Artists Records.
