David Gilmour (1978)

David Gilmour’s first solo album. Recorded during a hiatus between Animals and The Wall, the album allowed Gilmour to explore a more personal, stripped-down sound while highlighting his soulful guitar work and distinctive vocals. Compared to where Pink Floyd was heading at the time, this surely served as a personal well being journey and a chance to (re)discover his own musical voice, which I think he does quite well here. Musically, Gilmour has always struck me as masterfully understated and this album serves as a nice glimpse into that, despite the bombastic direction Roger Waters was taking Pink Floyd at the time.

1978 US pressing from Columbia. A little road worn, but plays really nicely.
