Santana - Abraxas (1970)

Building on the energy of their debut, Abraxas showcases a more refined and expansive sound, with Carlos Santana’s expressive guitar leading the way. The album features iconic tracks like “Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen,” a soulful reinterpretation of the Fleetwood Mac song, and “Oye Como Va,” a vibrant, rhythm-driven piece that became a cultural touchstone. The instrumental “Samba Pa Ti” highlights Santana’s melodic mastery, blending emotional depth with Latin-infused grooves. Fantastic cover art by Mati Klarwein too!

1970 US pressing on Columbia. I picked this copy up a few years ago to replace my first copy that seemed like a dog had chewed on the cover. While I’m used to seeing folks had written their names on the sleeves or labels, this one cracked me up.
