Solitude Aeturnus - Through The Darkest Hour (1994)

Hailing from Arlington, Texas, doom merchants Solitude Aeturnus are one of the more overlooked, but excellent doom metal bands to emerge in the 1990s. Through The Darkest Hour is the band’s third album and my initial entry into their sound many years back. The album is marked by its melancholic yet powerful atmosphere, driven by Robert Lowe’s haunting and emotive vocal delivery. The music blends slow, crushing riffs with intricate melodies, creating a rich tapestry of despair and introspection. Songs like “The 9th Day: Awakening” and “Pawns of Anger” showcase the band’s ability to balance heaviness with a sense of epic grandeur. Heavy as fuck and somewhat of an overlooked masterwork.

2022 Finnish reissue from Svart Records and it’s basically immaculate.
