The Nice - Ars Longa Vita Brevis (1968)

Ars Longa Vita Brevis is the second album by The Nice and a pivotal work in the development of progressive rock. The album showcases the band’s ambitious fusion of classical music, jazz, and psychedelic rock, with Keith Emerson’s virtuosic keyboard work at its core. The title track, a multi-part suite inspired by Renaissance themes, demonstrates the band’s groundbreaking approach to integrating classical motifs with rock instrumentation, setting a precedent for the symphonic prog movement. Despite a strong familiarity with Keith Emerson’s work with ELP, and also Jackson & Davison’s work with Refugee, I am still pretty green when it comes to The Nice.

1969 US pressing on Immediate. Oh, it a beater, and the cover looks like he’ll, but it plays great! Will probably upgrade at some point, but this gets me rolling.
