Thorr’s Hammer, a short-lived collaboration between Sunn O)))’s Greg Anderson and Stephen O’Malley alongside Norwegian vocalist Runhild Gammelsæter, created a unique fusion of funeral doom and death metal with Nordic influences. Gammelsæter’s haunting growls and occasional clean chants in Norwegian lend an eerie authenticity to tracks like Norge and Dommedagsnatt, invoking themes of desolation and existential dread. I dunno what it is, but this album hits me. So very fucking good!
2009 US reissue from Southern Lord. Tragically majestic.
