Treponem Pal (1989)

Hailing from France, the Treponem Pal combines abrasive guitar riffs, mechanical rhythms, and cold, menacing atmospheres to create a sound that feels both raw and futuristic. The band’s self-titled debut is notable for its bold fusion of industrial, metal, and hardcore punk, making it a seminal release in the early industrial metal moment at the time. I was introduced to the band because of their similarities to Voïvod, but they have their own weird sound going, for sure. This first album remains my favorite by the band.

1989 US pressing on R/C Records, a subsidiary of Roadracer Records/Roadrunner Records.
